Our approach
Bridging Point is a place of safety for those needing short-term stabilisation and rehabilitation. We support adults with complex mental health needs and autism spectrum disorders to regain stability and take their next steps with confidence.
Our 6–12 month placement in the crisis pathway is designed to support recovery while planning for the future. From day one, we focus on early discharge engagement to help ensure a smooth, well-supported transition into a suitable community mental health setting.
We’re proud to be a low-restraint environment. Instead of reacting to distress, we focus on proactive strategies—like behavioural interventions and small environmental changes—to reduce potential risks and challenges before they arise.
Everything we do is aimed at helping each individual move through their care pathway and into the least restrictive setting possible, while reducing the likelihood of future crisis or readmission.
Low stimulus, low arousal
Meeting individual needs
Our care is guided by a low-arousal approach, developed by Professor McDonnell. This means we work to reduce stress, fear, and frustration by identifying triggers early and responding with calm, low-intensity support.
Our key principles include:
Reducing demands to lower stress
Identifying and avoiding triggers
Using non-punitive, low-intensity responses
Encouraging self-reflection for both staff and service users
Building strong, trusting relationships
Every placement is structured around a personalised pathway, co-produced with the individual wherever possible. We support therapeutic engagement, life skills and clear planning for the future, with regular reviews to track progress and adapt support.
Promoting self-care
Therapeutic outcomes
Stabilisation of high-risk behaviours e.g. self-harm or aggression
Improved emotional regulation and coping strategies
Reduced risk of long-term hospitalisation
Clear pathway toward discharge goals
Greater capacity for safe decision-making
Enhanced daily living and self-care skills
Reconnection with education, employment, or community services
