From the outset of taking over The Peele in 2020, our plan has always been to improve and enhance the service provision and facilities, to create an innovative world-leading elderly care facility. All parties were aware of these plans before the takeover. We want to reassure families that The Peele renovation work is not to transform the service into a young adult mental health unit, instead to provide a state-of-the-art, pandemic-proof facility for the elderly that benefits the Wythenshawe community and beyond.
Equilibrium Healthcare held numerous meetings with stakeholders since the takeover, with the most recent being on Thursday, 5 August 2021, at the home itself. At this meeting, families were informed that two units would need to be closed due to ongoing construction work and the residents of these wards would need to be safely re-homed.
While we understand that the move may be upsetting to our service users and families, we stipulated that we will not be putting a timeframe on the relocation. Instead, each resident has been allocated an individual social worker who will support them, alongside our internal teams, to find the best possible service that matches their individual care needs.
Equilibrium Healthcare advised all families present at the meeting of 5 August, that they are welcome to meet with the registered manager on a one-on-one basis for further discussions.
We look forward to reopening our state-of-the-art facility in 2022, and to provide world-beating services to the Wythenshawe and Greater Manchester elderly communities.
